Find the right intensity for your training.
Lactate testing connects an incremental exercise test with small blood samples, heart rate and pace or power. We explain your lactate curve and use a reviewed method to help identify training priorities and prescribe intensity.
Choose treadmill running or cycling on the Wahoo KICKR Bike according to the sport you want to assess. Each is a staged test with workload increasing across the assessment. The protocol is discussed before you start.
Lactate changes with exercise intensity. We examine the pattern across stages alongside workload and heart rate. Threshold estimates depend on the method and test conditions; a fixed concentration is not automatically the correct threshold for every athlete.
Your assessment helps distinguish easier work from harder sessions. Endurance Lab coaching uses a seven-zone system. We explain which measured variables support your zones and how to use them alongside perceived effort and everyday training feedback.
A repeat assessment can help evaluate changes when preparation and test conditions are comparable. The useful timing depends on your training block and the question you are asking. Discuss reassessment rather than repeating tests simply to collect numbers.
Current prices, appointment availability and payment are shown in the portal before booking.
Bring appropriate footwear and training clothing. Follow the booking instructions for food, hydration and recent training; avoid arriving fatigued from a hard session. Tell us about any illness, injury or exercise restrictions before testing.
A lactate-only test does not directly measure oxygen uptake. Choose the combined VO₂ and lactate service if both measures are relevant.
Not necessarily. Responses differ between exercise modes. Assess each discipline when you need sport-specific guidance.
