August Benedicto comes from Paniqui, Tarlac, in the Philippines. His route into endurance sport started on a bicycle: as a boy he delivered ice by bike, which led him into cycling. He went on to race for the Philippine duathlon national team before moving into triathlon.
He has been racing IRONMAN events since the late 2000s, building his reputation in the Filipino and Asian elite categories at IRONMAN 70.3 races across the Philippines, including four Filipino elite titles at IRONMAN 70.3 Cebu, before going on to take overall wins in Cebu in 2022 and Subic Bay in 2026.
Now based in Ireland, August coaches with Endurance Lab alongside his own racing and is also the team’s bike fitter.
Alongside his own racing, August has shared his knowledge with young and recreational athletes. In 2020 he taught proper running form and running skills in the Alaska Fortified Ironkids “Keep Fit at Home” webisodes, and gave an online seminar for Midway Colleges on exercise and healthy eating at home during the pandemic.
August puts a strong emphasis on good running form: as he puts it, if your body position is wrong when you run, running becomes harder.
Former member of the Philippine duathlon national team. He has also received the Bagong Bayani Award.
